FORMER MARINE RENOUNCES US CITIZENSHIP IN MOSCOW
Moscow, USSR (JFKASSASSINATION) Lee Harvey Oswald, a former United States marine who arrived in Moscow on October 16, walked into the American embassy today & announced that he wanted to renounce his American citizenship & become a citizen of the Soviet Union.
Mr. Oswald's request was submitted to the proper Soviet authorities for review.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who is 20 years old, served as a radar operator at a US naval base located in Japan.
There is no information available at this time as to the reasons for Mr. Oswald's requests.*
*Lee Harvey Oswald enlisted in the USMC on Oct 24, 1956 just after he turned 17. As a PFC, he served at Marine Corps air bases in California & Japan.
Oswald's request to become a Soviet citizen was turned down on Oct 21, 1959 but he was allowed to continue living & working in the USSR.
He returned to the United States, along with his Russian wife, in June 1962.
