OSWALD'S ROOMING HOUSE IN DALLAS TO GO ON THE MARKET

Dallas, Texas (JFKASSASSINATION) The Dallas Morning News reports today that the rooming house here in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas where Lee Harvey Oswald lived at the time of JFK's assassination will soon be on the local real estate market.

                 1026 N. Beckley Avenue
                          Dallas, Texas

According to the online story published today by Dallas News, PAT HILL, the current owner and granddaughter of Gladys Johnson, the owner in 1963, has decided to put the property at 1026 North Beckley Avenue up for sale in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the assassination.

The house, which will be listed on June 1, 2013, will include the original kitchen, living room couch, rocking chair, coffee table, book shelves and fireplace heater that were present in November 1963.

Ms. Hall is in the process of renovating the room where Oswald lived.

The walls will be restored and painted in the original green color and the metal twin bed where the alleged assassin of President Kennedy slept will be included.

The 2078 square foot house, with 9 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms as well as a basement and detached outbuilding, is currently rated with a tax value of $65,830.

While the asking price is yet to be determined, it is expected to be much higher than the tax value considering the historic importance of the property.

Gladys Johnson, who along with her husband purchased the home in 1943, died at the age of 61.  She rented a room to O.H. LEE (a.k.a. Lee Harvey Oswald) on October 14, 1963 for $8.00 a week.

The rental price included refrigerator and telephone privileges as well as use of the living room and television.

The property will be listed by VO SINGHAL.

JFKASSASSINATION COMMENT

When we visited Dallas in December 1990/January 1991, we went out to 1026 N. Beckley Ave. and made some 35mm color slides of the exterior of the home.*

The property was still a rooming house then with a sign advertising rooms out in the yard.  The home was not open for tours at that time.

*I do not have access to my slides at the moment but will post them when I can, please check back!

  1. It is fitting to have waited 50 years for history to play out before selling the house. It seems much like Roger Stone waiting until now to launch his book implicating LBJ in the assassination. Readers of this forum might wish to know more about that too:
