WHITEWASH-the report on the Warren Report by Harold Weisberg, Chapter 5: At The Depository - The Tangible Evidence II

Knoxville, Tennessee (JFKASSASSINATION) Today this blog continues our report on Chapter 5 of Harold Weisberg's book "Whitewash--the report on the Warren Report", published in 1965.

The title of Chapter 5 is At The Depository -- The Tangible Evidence

Harold Weisberg writes that there was "an abundance of evidence" at the scene & although it was sometimes contradictory, nevertheless "it was there."

This included the 3 empty cartridge cases near the easternmost window on the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository, as well as the rifle found about 1:22 p.m. (CST).

A bag was also found but not as well handled, according to Weisberg, as the cartridge cases & rifle.

Weisberg goes on to write that Lt. J.C. Day arrived at the scene about 30 minutes after the assassination.

About 50 photographs were taken on the 6th floor but none were of the location where the bag was found.

Mr. Weisberg, based on the Warren Report, writes that the boxes in the area "were treated with equal carelessness" by the authorities.

While Exhibit 1301 does show 3 places on 2 of the boxes where the finger or palm prints of Lee Harvey Oswald were said to be found, Mr. Weisberg does not believe that necessarily proves anything since Oswald was assigned to work with these same boxes.

As to the argument that one of the boxes bearing an Oswald palm print proves that he was the gunman, Weisberg writes that if the shooter had been in that position, he would have had to be sitting down...yet because the closed part of the window was half way down, it would have been in the way.
